Beijing BFS Fengtai

Beijing, China

As a joint development of leading Chinese real estate companies Financial Street Holdings and Vanke, this office complex is composed of four buildings that are located prominently in the first row of the Fourth Ring Road in Beijing. Varying in height from 28 meters to 80 meters, the buildings are organized around a central park with an oval-shaped sunken garden that allows sunlight into the lower-level retail and conference center spaces.

The façade designs for the buildings set them apart, emphasizing an overall rectilinear, contemporary aesthetic. Three buildings are clad in vertical stone expressions with silver metal accent strips. The fourth and lowest building introduces larger frames around groups of windows on the northern façade that help break down the massing and open views toward the highway.

Inside, the building public spaces take cues from the exterior. The main office lobby reflects the large “city windows” concept, with frames that vary in size and materials around interior glazing. The tall, 13-meter-high lobby also provides a grand impression upon entry, imparting a feeling of openness for the high-tech office park.
