200 West Adams

Chicago, Illinois

The 200 West Adams building was originally designed by Harry Weese & Associates and completed in 1985. The building had undergone a subsequent renovation that introduced a swooped entry canopy and selective millwork and metal enhancements in the lobby that did not complement the building. In 2006, Goettsch Partners was hired to renovate the 677,000-square-foot property, focusing on the entry and lobby experience.

On the exterior, the canopy was removed, opening the height of the entry and allowing for a large, backlit graphic address to provide identity. In the lobby, the design introduced a new terrazzo floor and millwork carried throughout in order to bring a consistent aesthetic. An area of interior green space was also created, and new artwork was added behind the reception desk. The completed renovation now projects a cohesive image that has been instrumental in the building’s leasing activities.
